WHY BECOME A MEMBER?
Kwartzlab is a place to create, collaborate, and make things happen!
Kwartzlab has 8,900 sq ft of space and hundreds of tools available for you to use
Kwartzlab members get 24/7 access to tools, equipment, and workspace — all within a friendly, respectful community that is 100% operated by the voluntary contributions of members (members are expected to contribute an hour or two of time and effort monthly to help maintain our shared facilities and build our community)
Membership is $59 + HST per month, and it’s what keeps our lights on, our tools sharp, and our community thriving
How to JOIN!
Excited to become a member?
Start by dropping by one or two Tuesday Open Nights to check out the space and chat with our members — feel free to bring a project to share or get advice on.
When you’re ready to join, just talk to a member that night. We’ll do a quick interview, go over the rules, take your photo, and post your application for community review. During this time, members can give you a “+1” if they’ve met you and think you’ll be a great fit for the lab. Once you’ve received enough support, your membership will be approved. If you don’t get quite enough votes the first time, no problem — just come to a few more Open Nights to meet more members and try again.
After that, you’ll be invited to join officially — set up your $59 + HST monthly payment, get your key card, and enjoy 24/7 access to Kwartzlab!

Read through the Kwartzlab Policies and Procedures Manual so you’ll know what to expect once you become a member. Please note that you’ll have four weeks to start your payments after being accepted.
Be sure to read our Code of Conduct before your interview — it’s required reading and gives you a good sense of how we work together as a respectful, supportive community.
Membership costs $66.67 per month ($59 + HST). We encourage members to set up automatic monthly payments through their bank account.
Short-term storage is available for works in progress, and affordable long-term storage options can be rented if you need extra space.
Commercial activity is allowed! Many members use the lab to create art or commissions for clients, or to prototype products for their small businesses. What’s not allowed is mass production, occupying floor or bench space long-term, or otherwise limiting access for other members.
If you like to socialize, Tuesday Open Night is our main community night — plus we host workshops, parties, and public events where you can volunteer or show your work. If you prefer quiet time to focus, the lab is usually calm outside of scheduled events, and tool sign-up sheets are rarely needed.
Kwartzlab is both a democracy and a do-ocracy. We make decisions together through our members-only mailing list, and we collaborate daily through Slack channels for special topics. Everything here runs on volunteer energy — the people who step up to do the work are the ones who shape how Kwartzlab grows.
Once you’ve been accepted, visit our Membership Dues page to set up your payment and get started.
