Kwartzlab Cleaning Schedule By Year

Cleaning Schedule Task Breakdown

Garbage, Kitchen and Bathroom

  • Garbage and Recycling need to be taken out Thursday evenings and the Blueboxes need to be picked up on Friday
    • Garbage needs to be picked up from the Kitchen, Bathroom, Lab 1 and 2 and put out at the curb at Breithaupt St.
    • We typically try to put out garbage bags only (located in Kitchen) because garbage cans get stolen frequently from us. However, if the garbage is fairly heavy, put it out in the can but make sure you pick it up on Friday
    • Blueboxes need to be put out at the curb at Breithaupt St. and picked up Friday as well (they get stolen so book your time or have someone else going to the lab on Friday pick them up)
    • Once garbage has been put out, replace the garbage bags in the cans with new ones
    • make notes if stock of any supplies that are low and send an email to the kwartzlab member list
  • Kitchen
    • Sweep and mop floors
    • Clean counters, sink and appliances
    • wash any dishes if necessary - send email to kwartzlab member mailing list if dishes have been left for clean up
    • Check the fridge for any food that is there that has gone bad and toss out
  • Bathroom
    • Clean sink, toilet inside and out, clean mirror
    • Sweep and mop floor
    • Stock up paper towels and toilet paper as necessary
    • Make notes if stock of any cleaning materials and/or supplies are low and send an email to the kwartzlab member list
    • HOW TO reload the bathroom towel dispenser:
      • To open dispenser: A stubby flathead 1/4 turn on the plastic screw on the right side. Opens from top, hinges at bottom.
      • Extra rolls of craft paper are stored in attic above bathroom.
      • More rolls can be purchased at Wholesale Club in Waterloo beside Chapters.

Lounge

  • Use the upright vacuum cleaner for cleaning the carpet and furniture in the lounge
  • Use the Shopvac in Lab 2 for vacuuming the rest of the floors, as it has proper filters for dust and debris and will catch more than sweeping
  • Using microfibre clothes in kitchen, wipe down the shelves, tables and TV stand/electronics to clean them of dust
  • Tidy up the area, electronics, tables, magazines, etc. in the lounge and the welcoming desk
  • If anything on the storage shelves is not safely put in place, please correct that
  • Make notes if the vacuum filters need replacing, or clothes need washing/replacing, and send an email to the kwartzlab member list

Lab 1 - Electronics Lab

  • Using microfibre clothes in kitchen, wipe down the shelves, window ledges, tables and electronics to clean them of dust
  • Use the Shopvac in Lab 2 for vacuuming the floors and cleaning chair fabrics (if necessary), as it has proper filters for dust and debris and will catch more than sweeping
  • Organize tables and chairs if necessary
  • Clean up any loose projects or materials not marked to be left alone, and centralize them on a table, send an email to the kwartzlab member mailing list to notify people that they need to be dealt with
  • Tidy up electronics tables, put tools away if necessary
  • Make notes if the vacuum filters need replacing, or clothes need washing/replacing, and send an email to the kwartzlab member list

Lab 2 - Workshop

  • Put away any tools that haven't been put away, making note and emailing the kwartzlab members list afterwards
  • Scrap pieces left on the floor/tables not marked to be left alone can go in the garbage (judgement call) or neatly piled on one of the tables with a email to the kwartzlab members mailing list about their new location
  • Use the Shopvac in Lab 2 for vacuuming the floors, benches and tools , as it has proper filters for dust and debris and will catch more than sweeping / brushing
  • Check to see that the table saw is guarded by the side bar (bar beside blade and locked down)
  • If you see any damaged tools, send an email to the members list so this can be taken care of
  • If a new filter is needed for the vacuum cleaner, send an email to the members list so this can be addressed. For the most part, knocking it against the inside of a garbage can (bag in of course) outside the building will knock out most of the caked up dirt and allow the filter to work properly again
