Lightworks Artifacts – CNC Art
By karlw
Each of the light boxes consists of a three dimension face cut into a pine block using a CNC (computer numerical control) machine. The 3D faces were created with CAD (computer aided design) software. Each face is shrouded behind a piece of dark acrylic and illuminated by light emitting diodes that are controlled by a PIC 12F629 microcontroller. The idea behind these boxes was to use modern technology to create something with the patina of an ancient relic or a death mask.
Materials:
Pine block face cut with a CNC Router
PIC 12F629 microcontroller and software
Printed circuit board, red light emitting diodes
resistors, voltage regulator, battery clip, 9V battery
plywood, wood glue, smoked acrylic

Very Cool! I would love to see it with green and blue LEDs. These would be great for Halloween!
excellent! what was the music you used to score this with?
Hey Gus, I wrote and recorded the music myself.
This is awesome – the death masque effect is rather creepy and I agree it would be great for Hallowe’en
