This weekend there will be a movie shoot going on in Cambridge for a film that is set in the future. The story revolves around a future society where people are implanted with a personal computer and video visor connected to a network. The computer advises them on how they should interact with each other and almost every other aspect of their lives. To represent the embedded computers I built a couple of boxes that simulate network traffic with 2 light emitting diodes cut into the side of a small plastic box. I designed the circuit around an eight pin PIC 12f629 microcontroller. A number of different display modes are programmed and can be selected with a push button switch.
The film maker wants to keep the details under wraps until the film is finished so that’s all I can say for now.
