5+5 v2 rocked out!
By DW
We had a great time at kwartzlab last week at the second 5+5 event, where we invite 5 local artists and 5 kwartzlabbers to give 5-minute lightning talks on what they love to do.
Paul Walker is walking us through the Bananaphone design here.
More after the break…
Gareth Lichty blew me away with his 9km garden hose installation. Massive scale weaving.

Mr. Andrew Mackie described his vision of mobile net access.
Bernie Rohde brought his sculpture, Mojo, to life for us.
Mark Sherry demo’d 12-day brew uber-coffee that led to smelling and tasting later.

It was great to have James Nye‘s work in the space for 5+5…

and to have James too!
Great turnout! And…

then after the…

break…
David Jensenius took us through the process of his music/social commentary work. Wow!
Natalie Silvanovich wowed the audience with her deep dive into Tamagotchi communication. When she ran over time the audience stomped their feet for more and our volunteer time keeper, Chérie, clocked another 5 minutes for Nat. Great job.
K. Jennifer Bedford took us on a tour of her macro photographs of translucent dried glue, peeled off her skin, forming the most amazing constellations.
Darcy Casselman, a very brave man, did some live coding to show us visualizations with Python and Clutter. And when things didn’t go quite as he’d planned, we just cheered. Gutsy move that totally fits with 5+5.
Rob Ring, my anchorman, rounded out the show with fantastic video work that is chock full of humour, observation, and insight.

And when the talking’s done, there was lots of time to chat about CNC (go Karl Williams!) and other projects in the space.

Thanks again to everyone who pitched in on the event. It stretched my brain and I hope it stretched yours too.
Happy making,
DW

Thanks for hosting this… it was interesting and entertaining!
[...] and it was only later in the evening when I figured out why she looked familiar: she helped out at my 5+5 event and was one of Paul Walker’s room mates. Chérie’s first show at SW kicked off Thursday [...]
