5 + 5 at kwartzlab rocked!

Our speakers: here’s Gus talking about his experiment hanging art in kwartzlab

Standing room only, the crowd spilled around the corner into the lounge.

Then Denise Strong, our friend from Behind the Red Door Studio (just upstairs), talked about her amazing… cement pieces.

The pictures don’t do it justice. Denise’s work just seems to float and has the most beautiful detail, belying their cement and wire-mesh skeletons.

And the work comes in all kinds of forms.

Then James Bastow talked about his design and build…

of the kwartzlab RFID access system.

with his fly-wiring kung fu. We’ll use James’ system for door access and power-tool lockout at the lab.

Next up was Cathy Farwell, our friend and neighbour from upstairs, took the stage…

to talk about her work on copper, and the process she developed. These corroded copper plates she makes and uses as a “canvas” really blow my hair back.

Thanks to Cathy’s husband, Roger Farwell (at left), for helping bring all this stuff downstairs to our lab.

Alex Williams dazzled the crowd with his software and explorations with…
