Culture Camp – Workin’ on the opportunities

Gus, Darcy, Eric, and I from kwartzlab joined the Culture Camp unconference on Saturday. It was great to connect with lots of people passionate about the arts and our local scene. Thanks to Brock Hart for organizing and The City of Kitchener for supporting. The Artbar catered and the food was excellent. Happily, we were able to contribute a few talks to the mix and invited attendees to come see kwartzlab after the uncon.

I think the goal of the event was to connect people in the arts community, so from my perspective: mission accomplished!

More after the break…

The Kitchener City Hall rotunda was a great place for the event. Lots of action with all the skaters outside. A real hub of Saturday activity.

We talked a lot about communication, but more along the lines of opportunities rather than barriers.

The group sessions were very helpful for us kwartzlabbers to get a sense of some of the challenges facing local artists. We are very much interested in engaging the more artistically-focused makers in the community. Got lots of tech-folks in the lab at this point and recognize the strength in diversifying.

Like any good conference, the informal hallway chats were as productive as the group discussions.

Good laughs.

And pitching the idea of the Do-ocracy (thanks shardy) that has been so massively effective for kwartzlab. The “constellation governance” was written by some other dude who was eager to contribute, but sort of misinterpretted our take on do-ocracy. That’s ok.

And Gus bought me a beer, so that was a perfect wrap to the day.

Happy making,
