kwartzlab’s first open lab night went great
By DW
Had a great time tonight talking to some new and returning visitors. Ori kicked off the night by installing the wireless door bell I brought in. Thanks!
More after the break…
Rob came by with pictures of his full-scale Dalek. Wow! He promised us a field trip opportunity to drop by his shop a few blocks over so we could see this baby in person. Rob was…
looking among the usual suspects for some help animating various parts of his Dalek when he met…
Karl, who not only builds robots, but also writes books about how to build them. Much whiteboarding ensued.
Karl brought in this cool LED matrix scroller clock…
that uses a Dallas chip to keep time and a PIC to glue it all together.
Meanwhile, Cedric chatted with newcomers Bruno and Doug, possibly trying to enlist them in his uber-vlan project (<cough>skynet<cough>).
But we should hail Cedric the Wise for hooking us up with this fridge provided by the nice people at Coca-Cola…
to whom we have promised minimum orders of $270 in product with no order frequency requirements. Members, have your say on the drink selection poll, closing Friday.
So thanks to Ori, Doug, Bruno, Karl, and Rob for visiting tonight. Hope to see you all back next week.
Slight correction for prospective members on how to stay tuned into our community: non-member mailing lists explained here very clearly by Steph, several times to me, and I still get it wrong. And, yes, I know email is old news, so just follow the kwartzlab twitter feed. Or my twitter feed. And of course, this blog
Happy making,
DW

Nice to see Doug and Karl could make it. Interesting folks, meet more interesting folks.
And a Dalek? Very cool.
